Susan Henshaw Jones
President & Director: Museum of the City of New York

Susan Henshaw Jones is President and Director of the Museum of the City of New York.  Occupying a landmark building on Fifth Avenue at 103rd Street, the Museum embraces the past, present and future of New York City and celebrates its cultural diversity.  Ms. Jones came to the Museum from Washington, D.C. where,  from 1994-2002, she served as President of the National Building Museum, the nation’s leading institution devoted to interpreting American achievement in architecture, construction, engineering, and design.

She initiated and organized a groundbreaking exhibition at the National Building Museum called Big & Green: Toward Sustainable Architecture in the 21st Century (January 17-June 22, 2003), which was accompanied by a book by the same name.  The Museum of the City of New York is now working on a follow-up exhibition that will cover the new technological advances that have occurred in the intervening time.

Susan began her career working in the Lindsay Administration in the Mayor’s Office of Lower Manhattan Development. She has also worked for the Boston Housing Authority, Citibank, and, for a period following attending business school, helped run her family’s manufacturing company.

Ms. Jones was President of the New York Landmarks Conservancy from 1988 to 1994. She also serves on the Board of Trustees of the American Architectural Foundation and is a member of the Preservation League of New York State’s Trustees Council and the Barnard College Parents Fund.
