Winston H. Hickox joined California Strategies, LLC as a partner in 2006, bringing with him unparalleled experience in environmental policy and regulation, as well as a strong background in public finance including pension fund investment management. His state environmental policy experience includes five years as Secretary of the California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA) - a member of the Governor's Cabinet; seven years as a Special Assistant for Environmental Affairs to Governor Jerry Brown; and two years as an alternate to the California Coastal Commission, appointed by the Speaker of the Assembly. Winston recently completed an assignment as the Chair of the California Market Advisory Committee to support the implementation of the state’s first-in-the-nation comprehensive greenhouse gas reduction program. As Secretary of Cal/EPA, Hickox was instrumental in the enactment of legislation requiring new greenhouse gas emission standards for cars. Hickox also assisted CalPERS, the California Public Employees’ Retirement System, with the design and implementation of a series of Environmental Investment Initiatives.
